Remember how I told you I was going to be an Ambassador for the Dover International Speedway FedEx 400 benefiting Autism Speaks on May 31st? Well we took the family last week and had a great time watching the drivers conquer the Monster Mile!
Dover Speedway Family Fun
The race has changed since I went years ago and there is defiantly a family/entertainment vibe going on. We got there early so we didn’t have to deal with a lot of traffic and parking and by 10am we had tasted free samples, seen Miles the monster, listened to a concert and were on the track for a Q&A.

Nascar track Q&A
This was the kids favorite part. We were walking the track and looking at the cars on Pit Road and then we watched a Q & A with Jimmie Johnson (who won the race). It was made even better because there was an educational aspect between race cars and space. I also got to see one of the suits I used to test at the ILC.

After the track was cleared it was off to the Monster FunZone. There were samples of strawberries from Fifer Orchards, mini-golf, a rock climbing wall, multiple fun inflatables and a jumping thing which my kids had to go on! All of this was free and a great way to keep the kid active before heading into the stands.

We also took some time to learn about the new kids club Monster Mile Youth Nation. exclusive for race fans 14 and under this gives a ton of great benefits for the low cost of $20 a year.

  • Free FanVision rental on one race weekend (this alone is worth the cost with FanVision costing $50)
  • Free welcome gift that in 2015 includes items like a water bottle, merchandise coupon and die-cast car
  • Special VIP area in the Monster FunZone for members to interact and play games
  • Exclusive access to race weekend activities
While the kids wanted to stay and play I knew we needed to be in our seats before the start of the race. We picked up our FanVision and headed into the stadium. Once we got up the steps we took a few moments to cool down and sit in the shade before finding our seats. It was a hot day so keeping cool was key.

Once we found our seats we got set up, a big perk is that you’re able to bring your own cooler of food and drinks (no glass) into the stadium so we packed food for the kids and drinks for us! The kids claimed the FanVision immediately (they are wearing them backwards, but we didn’t realize till the race started) and Mike and I put our earplugs in.

We watched as parachutes came down, Megan Rugar sang the National Anthem, followed by fireworks and a fly over and then the most famous words were said (Drivers, Start Your Engines) and we were all super excited.

Watching the pace car lead the way and the flag drop was so cool, and loud, but watching the car go around in person and feeling the excitement was an adrenaline rush for all of us.

Attending the race as a family was a fun and long day, and I’m glad we did it. The kids loved seeing the cars and hanging in the FunZone and I loved giving them a piece of where I grew up.

I talk about how I want my kids to experience different things and this was a perfect example of trying something new!
